Some of the good aquariums in the world can be found in most great cities. These facilities usually draw many visitors because of the fantastic creatures that swim about inside. The visitors are often the local people, but a great aquarium also attracts tourists to the city to see these wonderful creatures. Some of these attractions are better than others, but all aquariums have interesting creatures. Lots of school children that study about the creatures in their books at school are given the chance to get to visit these facilities to learn more about the creatures. The real fish are usually much more interesting than the ones viewed in pictures in a textbook.

Why Pet Health Care is so important

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

We’re a nation of animal lovers and pets are like part of the family. This is why pet health care is as important as human health care. Because vet bills can be costly, it’s important to take on some simple advice to keep your pet healthy and avoid illness in later life.

It’s important to vaccinate large pets such as cats and dogs. Owners are often tempted to leave animals unvaccinated because of the cost. In the long run though, vaccination saves money by protecting against life threatening conditions.

Similarly, cats and dogs must be wormed and treated for fleas and ticks. Medication to prevent these pests may seem costly, but prevention is definitely better than cure and this is indispensible to guarantee your pet’s wellbeing and happiness.

Promoting your animal’s happiness and comfort is also a great contributor to pet health care. All animals need a suitable place to sleep. Cats might sleep in a variety of different places in the house. Dogs on the other hand should be provided with a warm bed. Also, smaller pets like hamsters and rabbits need a warm place with the appropriate material. You can buy hamster bedding at pet shops, but they’re just as happy with shredded paper.

Your pet’s diet is also very important to their health. Although it may sound like a joke, pet obesity is a big problem, so their food needs careful consideration. Fatty milk isn’t great for cats, so save it for treats only. Many dog owners feed their dog human food from the table. Whilst a little human food will do no harm, think about the amount he’s eating. Fresh vegetables are a favourite of rabbits, and varying their diet will do them good.

To prevent pet obesity, all animals should get enough exercise. Even small hamsters need to be able to run about, so you should give them the biggest cage you can. Hamsters should be taken out of their cage to exercise; the plastic balls you can buy in pet shops are great for them. Do take care though, their tiny size makes hamsters great at disappearing into small holes and cracks. Although cats will get their own exercise, they love to stay active with toys at home. When it’s cold outside, some cats are reluctant to go out, even though you feel sorry for your cat, a gentle push in the right direction is good for them. Dogs love a good walk, so it’s no problem to give them the exercise they need. Remember that too much exercise is as bad as too little, so get the right amount. Bigger dogs normally require longer walks.

These rules are very simple, but are very effective in promoting a healthy lifestyle for your pet. You should always take your pet for an annual check up with the vet, but giving your pet a healthy life is vital to your pet health care regime. To prevent heartache and costly vets bills, this advice is vital.

Do You Need Pet Insurance

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Pet insurance can actually be very important for many reasons as our house has just recently found out. Basically we have had our golden retriever for a number of years and he hasn’t really had any problems at all other than a skin condition which is apparently quite common for golden retrievers but other than that we do not seem to have had any problems at all.

Over a period of a few weeks his eye was weeping a lot and a black lump had formed over the eye which he didnt mind but it didnt look right. Although at first it didnt seem like it was bothering him we had to keep wiping his eye so we just decided that we should take him to the vet to make sure he was okay. Now this was all fine and he came back with a few eye drops and a date to take him back again.

To make sure that it stayed away they said that they would need to do a small operation on the eye. The cost was a very large £300. Although this doesnt sound likea very big bill around the Chrisrtmas season it can be quite hard to pay out for and I have to say I was a bit shocked. All I can say is that we were very lucky we had some pet insurance as we were going to cancel it a couple of months back because it looked like we were never going to need it.

So it just goes to show that you may need insurance when you don’t think you do. You can even get things like puppy insurance which of course are based around the younger dogs.

If you are thinking about going away to a colder climate this year then make sure you do not forget your ski insurance.

Selecting A Pet Supply Store

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Pet supply store franchises and superstores have seen unprecedented growth since the nineties. In 2005, PetSmart and PetCo opened up 90 additional stores nationwide. Additionally, Pet Supplies Plus adds 10-15 new pet supply store each year. Over the years, smaller stores carrying pet products have been bought out or shut down. In the last five years, pet services like dog obedience school, grooming, boarding and veterinary care have increased. Retail prices increased 16% to accommodate the growth, improve profitability and drive down the cost of other pet products. Another factor driving down pet supply prices is foreign imports for pet toys, collars, leashes and bedding. In the past, many consumers would simply pick up a bag of dog food at their local grocery stores because it was cheaper, but now that prices have come down, while service and selection has gone up, there are more reasons to shop at a specialty retailer.

PetsMart is a top retailing pet supply store, with more than 1,107 outlets in 47 U.S. states and Canada. They also have 132 PetsHotels, or cat and dog boarding facilities. At their Doggie Day Camps, over 378,000 dogs are trained each year. The pet grooming facilities clean up 7.5 million dogs and cats each year, the 1,000 pet hospitals care for 3.5 million pets annually and the pet adoption services help 7,000 pets find new happy homes. As for pet care products, shoppers will peruse 13,000 unique items for birds, cats, dogs, small mammals, horses, reptiles, amphibians, arachnids and fish. Ongoing reward programs and promotions keep the store competitive and their pet supplies online site remains at the top.

PetCo began in 1965 as a mail-order veterinary supplies company with five employees (then called United Pharmaceutical Company/UPCO). Owner Walter Evans opened his first pet supply store in La Mesa, California in 1976 to sell higher quality veterinary supplies, food and pet products directly to consumers. During the eighties, under the PetCo moniker, the business began to expand from servicing ranchers, kennels and cat rescue centers to encompass a broader base. They acquired several smaller stores and expanded out of state to Oregon, Washington and Texas. Pet services like grooming salons were added in 1995 and their P.A.L.S. card incentives program launched in 1997, which is now up to over one million members.

No matter which pet supply store a consumer chooses, there are many available products and services. Another great thing about these stores is that they both have a “pets allowed” policy, so dogs and cats can walk right into the store to pick out their own favorite toys or treats. Some people may head online to find deeper discounts, better store hours and hassle-free shipping right to their front doors. Both PetCo and PetSmart offer convenient online shopping for their customers at www.petco.com and www.petsmart.com, respectively.

The Trampoline And The Pig

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Well according to one family in the UK they work very well together. A family in England has found out that one of their pigs actually enjoys using the trampoline as excercise for around 45 minutes at a time!

Although the first question that pops into my head is how many pigs can we fit onto one trampoline at once the real one that needs to be asked, is this legal!

But in all seriousness I think that if the animal enjoys bouncing up and down on the trampoline then it could save you time trying to make it lose weight in other ways. This could be very good for an animal such as a dog as you will then  not have to take it out for a walk!

My dog really enjoys the trampoline but he hates bouncing on it, he only ever comes on to have a mess around with the person that is on it so it is safe to say that not all pets are interested.

Could this be thought of as being cruel to animals?

I personally feel that if the animal is enjoying the time on the trampoline then there is nothing wrong with it at all. If it is not liking that the 12ft trampoline is working out for the animal then take it off straight away or could really get you into some trouble.

Should it just be the trampoline or not?

There are so many other things out there that animals could use right? climbing toys could be used too perhaps?

Well it depends if your pet likes it. You also have to seriously consider the hygiene of all of this, these are things that your kids are using so just be warned, animals carry all kinds of things.

You could end up in more trouble than it is really worth if you are going to try this so just be warned.

Trails To Cook Food For Your Dog

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Nothing is tastier and healthier than home-cooked food. This principle applies not only to humans but also to our pets, particularly our dogs. The companies which make food for pets might cry themselves hoarse but fact is that commercial pet food by itself can not fulfill the nutritive requirements of your pet. Read on to discover why your pet needs food cooked by your own loving hands.

When cooking for your dog, your primary intention should be to serve a well balanced meal to your pet. food your first target should contain all the nutrients in the desired quantities. It should include carbohydrates, proteins, minerals, vitamins and some amount of fats as well. To ensure that you are giving your pet a quantities. It should include a variety of food items in his daily diet.

Dogs have to be given a food which cannot be entirely similar to what human beings consume. This is so because unlike homo sapiens ; dogs are not capable of digesting every edible food item. Always ensure that you never feed your dog with food items like raisins, bread, garlic and several others. When cooking homemade food for your dog keep this instruction in mind. This will prevent you from adding these things your dog’s food.

Another thing that you must completely stay away from when cooking for your pooch is salt. Avoid salts at all costs if you do not want entirely when cooking for your pet to shed all his hair. To make when cooking for the absences of salt, you can include different kind of ingredients to give a distinct flavor to the food. For instance, you can include crispy vegetables like bell peppers along with the sweet ones such as carrot so that your dog enjoys the different flavors.

On one hand there are particular you are a total no-no for your dog. On the other hand there are certain food items that are mandatory for your dog. Amongst a variety of obligatory food items for you dog; eggs are the most serious. They are preferable over meat because of their appropriate fat content. Another thing that you need to keep in mind while cooking for your dog is that you follow healthy cooking methods.Do not give deep fried food or overly cooked food to your dog. Instead, try healthy cooking practices such as baking or boiling. These healthy cooking methods not just preserve the taste of the food but they must for the general well being of your pet.

for your dog is of course a good thing. It cooking for your pet but also saves your money. But if you want to cook right, keep the above mentioned tips in consideration.

Buying A Pet?

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

There are so many reasons out there that you need to consider before you actually go out and buy a dog so read on to see if you should be thinking about making that friend or not.

Why You Should Get A Dog

Dogs are of course very friendly to everyone if you bring them up in the right way, very comforting too. Believe it or not a dog actually works better for a family than cat which is why you do not see as many families having a cat as you do dogs. Cats are great but the problem is they are out most of the time, who wants a pet that is hardly ever around to sit with you.

A dog will always perk up for a game even if they are feeling unwell because they love to have that interaction with their human masters. If you have kids then the best thing to do is get a puppy and not a rescue dog, a puppy will be able to adjust to children whereas a fully grown dog may not be able too. Although it does sound a bit silly it takes a lot of trust between the owner and the dog to form that bond.

Why You Shouldn’t Get A Dog

With Christmas coming up it is never a good time to make the decision on getting a dog. More importantly you should never get a dog for someone for Christmas as more often than not they are taken back because they simply cannot find the time to take care of the animal.

A puppy is great but raising a dog is actually very hard work and can cost a lot of something goes wrong. This is where pet insurance can come into it. Of course you will have to teach it a lot of things from going to the loo outside and teaching it how to fetch and all of that nonsense.

So it isnt easy to do this but what did you expect, however you do get a cool friend out of it all!

The bad thing is that at first the dog could go around and pee on anything and everything! Best to get other insurances in place like the iphone insurance or perhaps the general gadget insurance.

Can you take your pet on your next holiday?

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Now here is a question for you, would you bother taking a dog or cat on your holiday? I tried to take a wide audience and speak to as many people as possible about this. I thought that it would be interesting to see what you think about this, and then gauge what you have to say about it.

There was a clear winning response, which actually took me surprise, many people said “No”. There are those that did mention, taking the pet with them on their vacation, could actually add more stress to “their time”. Some people actually suggested, that looking after their pets was considered to be like work. Surely a pet was bought as form of release from work, and I would have thought that people would have invested a little more take them with them?

It was clear to see that many people saw no advantage in taking a pet on holiday. A lot of people said it was the expense, having to pay for an “extra passenger” isn’t cheap and flying it to a destination, can be very “pricey”. There are checks and procedures that need to be active before you can even take your pet with you, many things need to be looked over.

Although there were many that didn’t like this thought, there were some that welcomed it with open arms. This is where they consider the pet as the family member, not just a pet, but almost like a brother or sister. There are some people that you find that are so close to their animals, that there is no hope of separating them. There were of course the people that said the dog or cat was a family member, but because they were animals, didn’t need to go on holiday, because they are “already on holiday”.

It was amusing to see so many different aspects on this, especially when people were talking about Egypt holidays, or even Maldives holidays, this showed that people were prepared to take their dogs to places, even though they wouldn’t have much mobility, so is this right or false? Maybe Caribbean holidays would be more suited to the cat or dog?
