Finding Perfect Labrador Puppies
Buying Labrador puppies from a pet shop are never a good idea and can lead to a lot of heartbreak later. Just like other breed dogs there are certain diseases that the Labrador is more prone to. It is only when you buy from a responsible breeder that you can minimize the chances of buying Labrador puppies that will develop health problems later on.
There are certain things that you can look out for when you buy your Labrador puppies that will help to ascertain what you are getting into. You should also be persistent in enquiring with the breeder about your dog’s certification and bloodlines.
Labradors remain puppies for a long time, well into their adulthood. Some adult Labradors always seem very young. Right from the start your Labrador should be playful and full of beans. Watch the puppy you want carefully and make sure that it drinks and eats fine. Arrange to see the puppy around meal times to make this easier. Nothing is worse than taking home a puppy that will not feed properly.
Always inspect the place that your Labrador puppies are being raised. Another warning sign is that the breeder is reluctant or does not want you to see the puppies. You should be able to see both the puppies and their parents.
Remember that to get a good idea of what the puppy will be like you need to see where it came from, this means the parents. The kennels should be clean, if they are dirty and you can’t imagine keeping a dog in those conditions do not buy from this person.
Labrador puppies are prone to eye diseases and can develop blindness. This can be avoided if your puppies come with CERF certificates. A puppy with a CERF certificate has been certified as free from heritable eye diseases. CERF should also certify the parents of your pup. When choosing Labrador puppies you should examine the eyes of the puppy carefully. The eyes should be clear and free from any mucus.
If the breeder tells you that he makes plenty of money by selling puppies then be aware that you might have a puppy mill on your hands. Labrador puppies should grow into healthy, active Labradors that love to be outdoors and engage in plenty of activities.
Just because your puppies’ parents don’t have hip problems doesn’t mean that there is no possibility of your puppy having hip problems. It can be extremely sad to watch your puppy grow into an adult that has hip problems. It will not be able to run and play the way it used to.
